    4 - Amor etorno... Stars!

If you like your romantic suspense with a side of amnesia then The Girl In The Mirror will be right up your street.

This is the second book I have read by this author, but the first was more of a contempory romance without any real suspense aspects to it. You get a double dose of twists and turns with Maggie’s story, in that the first part of the mystery (for me) was pretty easy to work out.

"Don’t give up on your past."

The reasonings as to why the situation is as it is are less clear to decipher, but as the book progresses the author does a really good job of keeping you on your toes in relation to this in that I didn’t work it out until the big reveal near the end.

"You lost almost nineteen years of your life. Of course it’s going to feel like you’re missing something…"

The bulk of the story takes place seven years on from the fatal car crash that killed Maggie Hellman’s twin sister Maddie and her best friend, left with complete memory loss of her life prior to that, she offers little resistance, when her mother packs them and their belongings up and moves out of town as soon as she is released from the hospital.

This had the potential to get so complicated…

In those years Maggie has finished her education, become a nurse and forged new relationships as well as made new memories, but on a return visit to her hometown with her mother, to visit her sisters grave one birthday a flashback of a memory suddenly opens the floodgates of questions of her life pre-amnesia, and her friendships/and relationships too, especially after on a follow-up visit she meets Nicolas Cortez… her sisters supposed long-term boyfriend, and someone she never knew about.

"You can’t make this shit up."

The rest of the story in particular the second half, becomes a little bit of a cat and mouse game with Maggie trying to chase down her memories by returning to places that were important to her and her sister, and with each new flashback/memory more question marks are raised as to who she was before the accident, and how her relationship with the Cortez brothers figures into her and Maddie’s past.

This is a story that I would put in the roller-coaster category, its more mystery/suspense than real romance, so if you are looking for a sex-fest then probably not the one for you to read at this point. But if you are looking for a skilfully crafted story, with lots of twists and turns to the plot then I would recommend that you give The Girl In The Mirror a go, because it more than met my expectations.

**This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy of the book.

Really enjoyable story, I wasn't sure what to expect with this book being slightly different to the authors normal style but as usual I wasn't disappointed I liked the tiny moreno/fate reference at the end of the book as well

Pretty good book. I figured out the twist after 40 pages, but it was great to go through it all along with the heroine and those bikers ..... Yum!

Having continual flashes Maggie can’t help but feel that she’s missing something, when she sees the man at her sister’s grave years later and confronts her mother she realises there was a whole piece of her life missing.

This was a kick up from some of the previous works I have read by this author, I loved the way that she took the characters in a direction that I hadn’t anticipated and gave the story a little more angst than I thought, there was definitely more “what if’s” lurking round in this story, more questions and a whole heap more suspense.
There was a lot going on in Maggie’s story and I urge you to allow it to play out without trying to second guess what and why things are the way they are, because all will eventually become clear and I think it is best heard from Maggie’s perspective.
There was so much going on that I think I might have lost my mind trying to piece it all together., although I have to say that some of the clues were a little more obvious than others.
Maggie’s journey is touching, it is her attempt to piece together not only what and where she came from but who and what is important to her future. What is she missing and why?
With a plethora of secondary characters that I am dying to get to know a lot better, I am delighted that this book is the first in a series that will intertwine, Girl in the Mirror is a comfortable standalone read but it is also the book that opens the door to a whole new world from the delicious mind of Ms Reyes.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 intense, emotional, intriguing, follow your heart stars!

I’m a big fan of Elizabeth Reyes. I have read every single book that she has published and I loved every single one of my reading escapes. Her words always captivate me and her stories linger with me for a long time. Her characters are unforgettable and so easy to relate to. When she announced that she was going to publish a book that was a bit different from what she usually writes, I was pretty excited. Girl In The Mirror was supposed to be a standalone book, but I am so glad the author took a different direction with this book and is making it a series. GITM can be read as a standalone because the story is complete and the other books will focus on other characters.

Margaret Hellman wakes up with no memories from her past. The only thing she knows is that she was involved in a car accident and that she lost her memory. Years have passed from that night that turned her world upside down. The little glimpses she gets from her past trigger a hurricane of emotions in her. Something is missing in her life and she won’t stop until she finds out what it is. She’s on a mission to discover what happened that night. Is Margaret ready to come face-to-face with her past?

Gah!!! This book made me go bananas!!! I was trying to put together the pieces of an intricate puzzle. I was following Maggie’s journey and I was taking notes of each detail that could help me uncover the mystery revolving around her accident. It’s difficult to review this book without giving spoilers away. What I can tell you is that you will probably have many theories of what happened to Maggie. I kept changing my mind with each new detail that was added to her story. I did figure out what happened to her before it was revealed, but that did not take anything away from my amazing reading journey.

The new characters from this series are incredibly addictive! The hero in this story is swoon worthy and intriguing. The connection he has with Maggie is amazing and the more they shared moments together, the more I was cheering for them to forget about the past and live in the moment. The supporting cast of characters surrounding Maggie and the H are awesome and I can’t wait to read more about them. I’m really excited to see who will be the main character in the next installment.

I give, Girl In The Mirror, 5 intense, emotional, intriguing, follow your heart stars!

    Okay listen.
Yes you start to suspect what happened but no way do you know why until the end.
That being said this is my first book by this author. I will read more from her this was so well done. Its definitely a mystery, with romance elements. This was phenomenally written and if there are any errors it wasn't noticeable. Even the most stringent grammar elite will enjoy this. I'm not giving a thing away except I read a review that said they had it figured out. I'm calling that an exaggeration. Beautifully written and executed.

I do prefer first person. I'm only mentioning that because Beast excerpt in this book, made me a little sad. I think in first person therefore I prefer to read that way or I get confused. Just in case the author reads this. And cares what a non author thinks :)

I'm so excited to read another book by this author! My angst about a good story and hoping I find one has ended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Suspense and Passion - A Perfect Pair
Reviewed in the United States on 22 January 2018
Girl In The Mirror is certainly a departure from Elizabeth Reyes' usual style. While she remained true to the elements which keep her books on my To Be Read List -strong family ties, sweet romance, passionate alpha male characters, and strong feisty female characters - Elizabeth Reyes added the element of anxious uncertainty that kept me turning pages to find out exactly what was going on. This book was edgy, bold, and demanding. The twists and turns the story took commanded the full attention of the reader so that no detail was missed.

Maggie search to find out who she is and her complete conviction that she had to find the missing part of herself is an unforgettable tale. I enjoyed the constant mental questioning and theorizing which kept me guessing what would happen next. I enjoyed trying of figure out exactly who the good guys and bad guys were in the story.

What I loved most though is that through it all one never lost sight of the love which drove Maggie's passionate search for answers to the questions about her past. The balance between angst and heartwarming familial love is perfectly done and makes for a compelling story.

I loved this story! You feel the heroine’s frustration and confusion as she tries to live her life with amnesia and pray the whole time her memory comes back cos you can’t help but love her. As for all the Cortez brothers, *drool*, I loved them all and I’m hopeful each will get their own story… please!!! Though I worked out the main twist very early on I didn’t understand the reason for it for a long time. A great fast moving original story you will not be able to put down until you finish it.
